Jack Morin, 21, is a baritone currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Choral Music Education at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. His work focuses on increasing the scope of the classical canon through the accessibility and performance of underrepresented song. In September of 2022, Jack performed in K-Art Song, a Korean art song recital held in awareness of both the art form itself and for koreanartsongresource.com. The database is an ongoing project to make Korean art song (가곡) more accessible to performers, to which he contributes phonetic transcriptions. Coverage of his performance at this recital has been viewed over two million times on Youtube. In April of 2023, Jack organized two concerts of unperformed songs composed by 1952 U-M alumni Beverly Benjamin Cole, which were performed in Ann Arbor and in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, where Mr. Cole lives. All 5 song cycles were performed by a different pianist and singer duo. Jack aims to help spread Mr. Cole’s works, and has done so by engraving the works, with plans to publish as well. In September of 2023, he began working with the Song of America database, which has close ties to African Diaspora Music Project. He has also performed in multiple operas at the University of Michigan. He was Leporello in 2023’s Don Giovanni, Jupiter in 2023’s Orphée aux enfers, and will be performing as John Cree in the upcoming main stage performance of Elizabeth Cree.
