Roy Jennings

Roy Jennings is a composer, pianist, and conductor. He has arranged a variety of hymns, spirituals, and art songs for solo voice and piano. Jennings is the artistic director of Arch Angel, a production company using performance, education, and publishing to promote African-American concert music. He was formerly Assistant Minister of Music at the world-renowned Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem where he served as a musician for 25 years. Jennings is a highly sought pianist, among his performance credits include performing with the Chelsea Ensemble Chamber Music group for five years. He was also the solo pianist in the Oxford University Press’ album of piano music by Valerie Capers, accompanist for the United Negro College Fund choir, and made his New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1991. After teaching at the Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, he became a guest lecturer at Queens College for six semesters starting at 2011 for the course, African-American Spirituals, Performance Practices. He currently is a performance coach at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York in the post-graduate studies program, where he has been on the faculty since 2013.
