About
Montague Ring (1866-1956) was a British opera singer (known by her birthname, Amanda Aldridge), teacher and composer. She studied voice under Jenny Lind and Sir George Henschel at the Royal College of Music in London, and harmony and counterpoint with Frederick Bridge and Francis Edward Gladstone. After completing her studies, Aldridge pursued a career as a concert singer, piano accompanist, and voice teacher. She was also the mentor and coach to such luminaries as Marian Anderson, Lawrence Brown, Paul Robeson, and Roland Hayes. She composed nearly thirty songs romantic parlour style as well as several light orchestral works, under the pseudonym of Montague Ring.
