About

Sundanese composer, conductor, guitarist, scholar, and teacher Ali Osman first studied double bass, and then composition, theory, analysis, counterpoint, and music history. He taught composition, counterpoint, and harmony at the Conservatory of Music and the Arabic Higher Institute of Music in Cairo.

Among his honors is Third prize in the Abu Bakr Khairat competition of the Ministry of Culture in Cairo for his Song for Chamber Orchestra. His music of mostly orchestral, chamber, and vocal works has been performed extensively in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

As a scholar, he has written articles for Egyptian publications and has co-authored "Egyptian Contemporary Music". His music for piano and harpsichord includes Question No. 1, Question No. 2, Four Little Pieces, and El-maqamas el-marsi.
